D was a four-year old boy with a moderately-severe sloping to profound bilateral sensorineural hearing loss. At the time of testing, he wore bilateral Unitron Icon AoHP behind-the-ear (BTE) hearing aids. His parents reported difficulty understanding his speech. They added that his greatest difficulties involved production of the sound /s/. He had received individual Auditory-Verbal therapy on a weekly basis since age two, and biweekly therapy thereafter.

D's performance on the TAC improved from completion of level six to completion of level eight, following the six-week training period. Successful completion of level eight requires the child to recall five details of a seven-to-ten-sentence story containing simple, compound and complex grammatical structures. Performance remained stable over the subsequent six weeks, during which no further use of the software occurred. Following completion of the study, D's mother reported that he seemed to demonstrate an increased use of auditory information and a decreased dependency on lip reading. She also observed an improvement in his daily speech production abilities, improved listening skills and an increased awareness of correct versus incorrect articulation.
