Privacy Statement

The creators of Listen-Hear and the University of Western Ontario (the "University") are committed to protecting your personal right to privacy. This page describes elements of our Information Privacy Policy as it applies to the Listen-Hear public web site. This includes:

  1. What information is collect when I visit the web site?
  2. How is collected information used, stored, and shared?

1. What information is collect when I visit the web site?

The server automatically collects information about your visit to the Listen-Hear web site. This includes your Internet IP address, web browser, operating system and page viewed. The server also collects personal information from you when you register to use the activities portion of the web site, through web forms that you complete and submit on a voluntary basis.

2. How is collected information used, stored, and shared?

Information about your visit to the web site is summarized to produce visit statistics. This information is also used to improve the layout of information on the web site and increase its ease of use. The University will use monthly and annual visits statistics in publications and for other purposes. Identifying information will be removed from these statistics prior to publication.

Personal information collected when you register on our web site is kept completely confidential in accordance to the terms of the Canadian Privacy Act (Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act - PIPEDA).

Steps have been taken to ensure the privacy and protection of personal information that is collected/stored on our web site server. These steps include:

  1. Your personal information will not be provided to other corporations or individuals, except as required by law or as evidence of illegal use of the web site.
  2. Personal information is collected using secure certificates to protect your data.
  3. Personal information is only accessible by user account - requiring a valid username and password combination.
  4. Your user password is stored encrypted on the server making it unreadable to anyone with administrative access to the server.
  5. All cookie data stored on your local computer are encrypted.
  6. The Listen-Hear server is security-hardened against all known forms of information extraction attacks.

By providing any information on a web form that is posted in the manner described above, you consent to the collection, storage and use of the information provided to facilitate your use of the site.

3. Moderation of content.

The Listen-Hear site contains unmoderated content. As a general rule, this means that content appearing in some areas of the site is not verified for accuracy, edited or approved by staff members or volunteers before appearing on the web site. Thus The University does not assume any responsibility for the accuracy of such unmoderated content or for any other matter related to it.

4. Links to third party web-sites.

The site contains links to third-party web-sites. The University does not moderate these third-party web-sites or links to them from the Listen-Hear web site. Privacy Policies at these third-party web-sites may differ from this one. The University does not assume responsibility for the protection of privacy, accuracy of content or any other matter with respect to these third-party web-sites or links to them.

5. Changes to privacy statement.

This privacy statement may be updated at any time.
